Where to get into Amazon Rainforest?

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Where to get into Amazon Rainforest?

I'm travelling solo to the SA by the end of Oct. And I wish to get into the Amazon Rainforest. Would it be better to get there in Peru (Iquitos or Tarapoto?) or in Brazil? Any suggestion for good agents?
Would it be too dangerous for me to join the local tour by myself?

One of the best places to check prices and haggle down prices for 1-2-3-7 day jungle trip or boat trip on the Amazon is the town of MANAUS on the River Negro in Brazil.
Their will be lots of touts at Manaus Airport if you fly in touting for trade.
In the town their is indepentant guides for one to one if you can travel the jungle and river and sleep semiroughly.
Plenty of Agencies in the town itself but take your time and check out as many as possible asking do they speak English etc etc.
A list of good tour companies is in Lonely Planet South America and it has tel No and address's or check links, tools, destinations at top of this page.
Have a good SA trip and dont get lost in the jungle.
