Hi
Anyone any ideas on the cheapest way of getting from Melbourne to Ayres Rock, i have looked into flying, driving myself and getting the train from Adelaide and they are all pretty pricey. I'am starting to wonder if it is going to be worth it or not, any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

go to greyhound.com.au. This is generally the cheapest mode of ground transport in Oz. A concession card knocks 10% off the price. A cheap option could be the day passes - in your case 3 days to get to Ayers Rock. I imagine you'll be coming back so 5-6 days would be useful.

hey,

im not really sure about prices but you could check out flying- virgin blue, qantas and i'm not sure if jetstar does that route? Like majito said greyhound is definitely worth a look and i'm not sure if firefly does that route either.

sorry i'm not sure of the specifics but maybe worth looking into,
cheers,

look around hostels in Melbourne - you're bound to find someone with a car going to Alice and looking for passengers to help pay the fuel bills.

I really would recommend driving to the 'Red Centre'. Only then do you get a true understanding of how f****** massive Australia is - plus there's some cool stuff/places to see on the way.

Uluru and the surrounds are definitely worth it. I noticed a MEL-AYQ fare for AUD $200 all in for one way. That is not a bad deal considering the distance travelled. I have done this trip both by car and plane. Try one way by both modes.
