Hi hluebeck,

What is yor budget? Istanbul has so many opportunities. On the othe other hand downtown is more expensive than old city. If you write me your range i could be more helpful..

300 euro seems a lot of money... you could get a good place for lesser easily.

If you want ideas for youth hostels .. i stayed in Bahaus Guesthouse in Sultanahmet. Decent place, walking distance to many attractions in Sultanahmet, and good service. I remember paying about $8-12 a night.

Each time I visited Istanbul I stayed at the Hotel Yigitalp (in the Laleli). It's roughly $45/nite for a double, but I bet you could talk them down since it's low season. I've also heard the Hotel Nena (Sultanahment) is a good place from some friends of mine. Both are with in walking distance of Sultanahment (think Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar), thought the Nena is closer. neither is a hostel, but good prices, and within your range it sounds like.

As eel states, there's so many choices, and your budget gives you great flexibility.
