My Fiance and I are having a 3 month trip for our honeymoon, June next year. Our first port of call is Bangkok, however, before we start our real travelling we want a 7 day, luxury break at one of the Islands off Thailand. We have been told about the Perhentian Islands and Tomiman. We woudl like to travel by air direct from Bangkok and are not sure which Isalnds you can get to direct from Bangkok? Somehere quiet with idylic beaches is a must.
Hope you can offer some good advice!!
Wow, a 3 month honeymoon, that sounds amazing!!
If you are looking at going to the Perhentian Islands (which are stunning and very chilled out and peaceful) then you would need to fly to Kota Bharu in Malaysia and take the boat from there (takes about 30 mins). There are 2 islands, one called Perhentian Kecil which is kinda more geared up towards backpackers and there is Perhentian Besar which is more of a resort island. But you can hop between the 2 really easily - it takes 5-10 minutes in a taxi boat!
Tioman has got an airport and I'm sure you will be able to fly direct there from Bangkok, but I haven't made that journey myself so it would be worth double checking.
Hope this helps.
Koh Tao has some lovely bungalows overlooking secluded beaches. You can also spend a couple of nights on Nang Yuan which is an amazing little island just a very short boat trip from Koh Tao. To get there you can either fly to Koh Samui and get a boat to Koh Tao/Nang Yuan, or get a bus from Bangkok and then transfer to a high speed catamaran at Chumporn for the 1 1/2 hour boat trip.
Welcome to TP.
Perhentian Islands and Tioman Island on the east coast of the peninsula are both great places for your honeymoon. (Refer to www.islands.com.my for the locations of major islands in Malaysia.)
But if you have a high budget, you may want to consider going to the Pangkor Laut island, next to Pangkor island on the west coast. It's a privately owned island where an internationally acclaimed resort is. Listed room rates are from US$250. Search around the net and you could get a better package deal. Read the reviews here.
Another place would be Langkawi, an archipelago of 99 islands at the Andaman sea, north-west of peninsular Malaysia. The Datai appears to be a very famous place with the honeymooners and travellers. The listed rates are more expensive than Pangkor laut though. (Read reviews)
