Get a undergarment pouch to protect your valuables. Make a photocopy of your passport identity page, also the entry stamp or visa into each country.

Some things I do:

1. Buy bottles made of plastic that have screw-on lids. These are light and re-useable.

2. By cans (tune, spaghetti, etc) that have a ring-pull so that you don't need a can opener.

3. Freeze a plastic bottle of water when you can so you always have a cold drink during the day.

4. When possible, stuff your face at breakfast and make as many sadwiches from what is available as you can and put them in your bag for later. There is something called a "free lunch".

5. When changing money, never look at the exchange rates offered or the comission charged. Simply ask them what they will give you for your money. This way, you can do easy comparisons between change bureaus/banks without having to do any calculations or read any fine print.

Hi
Get a passport cover which protects your passport and also when you go into other countries and receive your visa/entrance certificate. Just fold it neatly and stick it inside the lip of your passport cover and its always their when you need it when you reach the border to go back out.
Its a pity you never named this thread something like "Tips for Travellers" as it would have stood out a bit more and got more lookees.
al de bes and enjoy your travels.

Scan ANY AND ALL documents of anykind that you may need while travelling and email them to yourself before your departure. Then you can access them from anywhere and don't really have to worry about carrying hard copies.

You dont have to worry about carrying EXTRA hard copies. Please don't leave your passport and ID at home because you emailed them to yourself

Never bring brand new shoes with you. You will most likely be walking a lot and you want comfy, worn in shoes.

A good book is good for boring bus rides through no where or long airport delays.
Pillow case for, well, your pillow, hostel ones can be dodgy sometimes, and it can double as dirty clothes holder in between places.
A beanie for your head is always a must on my list, even if its not cold out, i like to pull it over my eyes when i want to sleep late and block out the sun.
Small flash lite, one of those high power key chain ones are great, especially when you are sneaking into your hostel room at 3am and dont want to wake everyone up. Unless you are one of those people who like to
A small note pad for writting phone numbers, addresses or cool stuff you want to remember along the way.
A small first aid kit is always good, you never know when you might need something late at night or on the go. i wish i had one in Rome when i sliced my finger open on a wine bottle at 11 at night in my hostel and nothing was open except a free clinic.
Everyone loves someone with a bottle opener on their key chain that they keep on them at all times.
Shower shoes are a must, trust me on this one, think you will all agree

And i could go on and on and on forever........

Hi
If daily siteseeing or travelling to a destination be it by bus/train/plane a good option is to photostat the relevant pages from your guide book the day before or that morning and leave your guide book in the hotel/hostel or your bag.
Just have your photostated pages in your cargo pocket pants and they are easy accessable and never lost and can be read and stuck back in cargo pant pocker in 2 secs.
