Im planning on travelling from Penang to Hat Yai via train and then to Phuket by bus and was wondering how safe that was, considering the civil disruption in the southern provinces, and the travel advice given by the government warning against travel to the area - is it safe enough to travel by train?
It is absolutley fine. We took the trip a few weeks back from Hat Yai to Butterworth. The civil disruption is happening only on the far eastern coast, the train doesn't go that way.
there are minibuses leaving Penang around 6am - straith to Phuket. They will pick you up from your guest house.
I have heard that there are boats/ferries that do the run from Penang to Krabi. Is this true? I'm travelling up from KL in Dece, ber to Thailand and was wondering about the safest type of travel as well.
most probably through the Langkawi islands (Kuah) to Satun in Thailand only
