ahjo has indicated that this thread is about China

Hi there,

I am planning a trip to Beijing at end of November. I googled and found that the temperture will be about 9 to -1 celsius around that time.

I have never been to a country in its winter and with such cold temperature. Can someone advise me what to look out with regards to clothing?

Do you think it is ok for me to buy those winter wear that says it is for 10-20 celsius instead of those thicker ones for less than 10 celsius. Then at least in the future I can use the winter wear again if I go to places that is not that cold.

Then, what type of shoes should I wear?

Any special thing I should bring?

Thanks for your advice !

Regards,
ah Jo

I don;t think anything remarkably warm should be necessary. Keep in mind that -1 celcius is still just barely below freezing, and as long as you aren't planning to spend all night outdoors or anything, even a sweater and light jacket could be plenty if you don't mind the chill. A warm pair of socks, a good coat, and a scarf/hat/gloves should be all you need. If anything, the wind will be a bigger problem than the actual temperature, so chapstick might be advisable as well.

Take care, and keep warm

Ok, thanks.

What about shoes? Running shoes are fine? I am worried they will get wet and I will freeze at my feet.

As you're from Singapore you will probably feel the cold more than I would coming from England! Someone in Australia asked me whether I was cold because I only had a shirt on. I said, "No, I'm English".
I'd take a couple of thin layers rather than one thick one, so you can adjust if you feel not too cold.
Just take comfortable footwear for walking around the city.

Indeed you are right. I am from England and am going to Beijing early November, and am planning to bring shorts and a tshirt. Running shoes? Bah humbug flip flops all the way

hi,as i live in beijing, i can tell you it is absolutely cold in Novermber, my suggest is taking a thick cloth for winter, and several thin layer shirts inside, because even it is very cold outside, it is very warm inside, so when you are inside , you can wear as what you need. For shoes, warm shoes would be need.
Take care
