backpackit has indicated that this thread is about Chile

Hey everyone. I'm trying to piece together a trip and part of it takes me from across the South American continent from Santiago to Rio de Janeiro. I'm trying to keep the expense down to an absolute minimum so I'm looking for buses or trains from Santiago to Buenous Aires and then on to Rio. The length of these to jumps doesn't really matter, as I'd be more than willing to spend the extra time on a bus or train and save the extra money. Besides, it's an adventure. Right? I can't very well see the continent if I'm flying over it.

If anyone can lend some insight and advise, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!!

Hiya. My sister and i are planning to do roughly the same trip in august. I´m currently in viña del mar in chile working but when i finish my placement my sister is flying out and we hope to get from santiago to buenos aires, iguassu falls, rio and then possibly come back to santiago via asunción in paraguay. Like you we are probably going to travel by bus because we are definitely not millionaires(!) and also we want to see as much of the countries we´re going through as possible. When are you starting your trip? Let me know if you find any bargains! Chao!Sophs.

Hey,
I did the same trip Santiago-Buenos Aires-Iguacu by bus. It's a long ride, I don't remeber exactely how long it takes, but you can make a few stops in other cities.... Santiago-Mendoza-Cordoba-Buenos Aires-Iguacu-porto alegre-curitiba-Rio

I have read in other travel forums the recommendation to fly lanchile, looking for last minute flishts $76 round trip santiago/buenos aires. You might then do the rest by bus. Just passing on their tips.

Hello,
I know a Tourist Counsel in Rio de Janeiro, he knows everything there is to know and speaks 11 languages fluently...he can surely help you with questions regarding bus travels. Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll pass his information along to you (there are 3 or 4 different ways to get in touch with him).
