$1900 just arrived in the post, and I'm quite happy! From 3 months work in Aus, as a porter in Sydney it annoyed me that I was getting taxed so much... Now though I can view it as a saving scheme. So thanks Aussy Government for saving that nice little surprise for me. I can now use that money to partly fund more plane trips that we all enjoy. Anyone working make sure you do the same thing once you leave.:)

Wow can't believe it actually worked. I think canada and maybe UK have something similar when you visit as a tourist, but there's so much fine print i never even bother.

Did you also get your superannuation back? Another 8% roughly I believe :)

I am just about to apply for the superannuation... I was waiting to see if I actually did get the tax. So not to waste my precious time. :)Now I can book my RTW ticket. So as you can imagine I'm relatively happy at the moment! Just makes me wonder though can I do the same thing for New Zealand. I'm not sure of the rules, going to be on a WH Visa same as Aus, but I just hate paying TAX! Anyone manged to get it back from NZ???
Cheers

They give with one hand and take with another!

Good on you for pursuing it and getting your money. Many people don't bother, or forget or simply think that it will all be too hard.

Well Johhno,
That's bloody great.
I just paid a $585.81 tax bill to the Australian Tax office two weeks ago and they gave all of it to you!!!
I hope you spend most of it on travel, and if you are in Yangon in early March 2006 you can buy me a beer in the bar at the Strand Hotel.

Enjoy

Anthony

Thanks for the money cobbana... Don't worry travel is the only thing I will spend your money on, and beer of course. And I might buy myself an Australian flag, sure there not too expensive...

Spending your ill-gotten loot on travel and beer sounds pretty good to me. Not too sure about the Oz flag though. Aren't they all made in Hong Kong?

Hi there,
Just wondering do you get ALL the tax you paid back from the Aussie government or just some of it. I have just arrived in Melbourne and am looking for a job at the moment.

Has anyone ever heard of a recruitment agency called Freespirit?

They claim they can get me massive tax breaks with a tax clause called:
"living away from home allowance" but they will charge my a 12.5% commision on my wages...ouch!

Not too sure wheather these crowd or worth dealing with or should I just wait and try and claim this tax back when I get home?

Thanks for any comments,
regards, Lavaghman
