hi, i was wondering if anyone has any tips on the best way to travel from thialand to china?
im flying into bangkok in january and have just over 1 month to travel, before my flight home. id love to meet up with a friend living in shanghi, but ive been checking out flight prices and they are roughly A$600 return from bangkok.
im happy catching trains and buses and was wondering if anyone has done this route before?
ive heard that once in china there are cheep internal flights? or is there a good rail system?

thanks, bec X

(ps, does anyone know about the dates for the Bo Sang umbrella festival in chang mai? i cant seem to find exact dates. just that it is the 3rd week in jan 2006? it sounds like it would be great to see!)

Why not try thai air asia BKK-Xiamen (one way about USD55 in January)and from Xiamen to Shanghai there are many flights (USD80 plus). or fly from BKK to Hanoi (USD35), and take train to Shanghai ( for ur info, from Hanoi to Beijing it is USD120 -sleeper, two nites.)

as for the boo sang umbrella festival it is from 14 Jan 2006
to 16 Jan 2006. this year it was january 21.

The festival is held in Bo Sang, a village in Chiang Mai, known for its umbrella production. During the festival, the streets of Bo Sang become alive showcasing traditional art of umbrella-making and painting. The main highlight of the event is the parasol procession ending with the announcement of Miss Bo Sang for the year.

If you happen to be there a few days b4 the event, visit the village to see the last minute preparations..almost every household is involved !

have fun!

In July I flew from BKK to PEK o/w for about $250 CDN with Dragonair. The plane even had new plane smell.
