Hey wuts up..
Im going to Australia for 1 month from November16 - December 16. Im landing in Sydney and staying there with family. However, we already have 4 nights booked in Surfers Paradise. The whole point of this trip is to party hard, so anyone have any suggestions on what to do and where to go from anywhere between Sydney, and Surfers Paradise. Any insight will be appreciated greatly
Good partying = Sydney... although the best partying there occurs over Christmas and New Years. Aside from a few stops, there's not that much in between Surfers and Sydney that I would classify as a good partying spot. Everyone's definition of this word might differ though. Byron Bay is the only one that sticks out in my opinion and would be a good spot to spend a few days up to a week, but don't expect anything big. It's a small town and there are really only a few places that have something happening at nights, so you won't be spoiled for choice
Although not on the way, Melbourne is widely acknowledged as the best clubbing city in Australia, even by Sydney lovers (and that's a hard feat) and Melbourne definitely has a much cozier and laid back feel to it on nights than most areas of Sydney. Then again, there isn't much that beats the beaches of Sydney
ricciuto, Sam I am is spot on with this one. if you want to have a good time out clubbing then your options on the east coast are Melbourne, Sydney, Byron, Brisbane, and to an extent, Cairns (but don't expect beaches in Cairns City or Brisbane, in both cases you have to go out of town to get to see any sand!). If you aren't interested in doing slow, history related day trips along the rest of the coast try looking at the Virgin Blue and Jetstar websites for cheap airfares up and down the coast. Don't expect any large party towns between Sydney and the Gold Coast. They are mostly small hippy towns and NewCastle (and old industrial town...some of the young locals love it, but it will be a quite night compared to other places).
Even though I am a New South Welshman I have to disagree about one point Sam made - there are a few spots that beat the beaches of sydney for relaxing days and a few good night clubs you can't beat the Sunshine Coast (just north of Brisbane)..Maroochydore and Calloundra are the most likely places to find a good night club/pub and still enjoy the sun during the day. The North Coast of NSW (incld. Byron, but also other towns) also has some spots with that relaxed Aussie Surfer/Hippie feel...depends what you are into.
Some places to party..
Sydney: Sidebar or Cargo Bar
Byron Bay: Cheeky Monkeys
Surfers Paradise: Shooters
