Hey all. In everyone's oppinion, if only one of the two could be visited, Barcelona or Madrid, which one would be the MUST-SEE of the two?
Thanks

Unfortunately it IS in the summer. Do you have any suggestions of good places to visit in Spain during the summer (early July)?
Thanks

Barcelona on just about every level. There are better arts, better bars, better restaurants. Madrid is still very middle aged, but it is improving, especially now that the moron of a mayor has gone. Remember that Madrid is still a long way off forgetting the Franco years, whereas Barcelona was always the free spirit independent, plus it has a dragon asleep on a roof.

Enjoy!

When are you planing to come to Spain????
I've never been to Madrid, but it must be very nice there. I got a friend over there....

I can only recommend you Barcelona! I live here at the moment and it's very pretty! Nice museums, nice people, beach (what else do I have to say?!?!?!?
It's very close to France or Andorra, if you like to travel somewhere....
And it offers a lot: bars, restaurants, discos .... you can party all night long or you can just relax in a cozy restaurant and enjoy your meal.....
Picasso, Gaudí, Miró - what else do you need....

I don't know what kind of interests you have and when you're coming, but Barcelona is worth it! I like the city very much! And they offer great accommodation places (cheap, cozy and central). Go and check out the following website for example: -snip-

Enjoy your time and good luck with your decision!

Greetings from Barcelona!

Julia

but Madrid has the Prada museum - might be worth it for that...Bosch - earthly delights.....wooohoo! quite a fitting painting since u will feel as if u ARE in hell...its really that HOT

I would recommend Sevilla over either of these in any other season but again...its in the bloody Andulusian Desert!

That´s a tough question to answer, especially for me, now living in Madrid with a great flatmate from Barcelona ;). I definitely love both cities, but for a holiday I´d probably go to Barcelona. It really depends what atmosphere you´re looking for, but as your trip will be in summer, in Barcelona it´ll be nice to have the ocean (Madrid will just be freakin hot). Barcelona to me also seems more cosmopolitan and bohemian/arty.
Madrid is excellent as well, the museums and the nightlife are priceless, but I could imagine it would take a tourist a few more days to get into the groove of the city.
If you can´t decided at all, go to San Sebastian in the Basque Country (the latest entry in my list of favourite cities in the world ).
And if you need any more advice on Madrid feel free to send a pm.

I lived in barcelona and really liked it , although the majority of beaches along the coast there are man made, but the nightlife and cafes are good! I didn't really warm to madrid i'd recommend cadiz, the area down there is fab! san sebastian is also nice and especially so in the summer!
