the prices will drop (geruda offers free return flights to foreigners from Jakarta) and some tourists and backpackers will come back with time tempted by good facilities.

a brother of my fiend has a hotel there and he thinks they are finished for good.

As a solo traveller I would not hesitate in going back to Bali. If I had a family then I would relunctantly stay away.
As to Bali's future as a tourist destination the answer is unclear and quite complex.

i would still go, cant hide & be scared forever, i'd rather take the risk and attempt to see the world before i die

(but obviously i would hope very much that no terrorist activities will be going on)

We went right after the first Bali bombings, and I must say that there was a kind of eerie feel to the atmosphere. All the posh hotels and guest houses were empty, as were most of the restaurants. The shopkeepers would play on your pity conscience to make a quick sale and drivers would follow you around for hours hoping to change your mind. But if you can close your eyes to all that and enjoy Bali for the beautiful island that it is, you're in for a good holiday destination. I loved Bali and its people and its one place I would definitely go back to.

Sure, with Bali topped the Indonesia's tourism industry as the most profitable destination! The government will never let it collapse so easily

I started travelling because of terrorism (09/11). My brother is in the military and was stationed in Washington, DC, at the time working in the White House, and it was a very scary time. I wasn't about to let terrorism stop me from travelling then, and I never will. If I could go to Bali tomorrow, I would. My wallet says otherwise... ;)

Having terrorism dropped in my backyard in a very gruesome way and on a massive level only served to make me even more curious about other cultures, and if anything, it's made me less afraid. My parents think I'm a little nuts, but my travel plans are determined by what areas/people/cultures I want to explore, not by what I'm afraid of.

If anyone is willing to loan me a few (thousand) dollars, I'll meet you there!
