Hey

I'm planning on going to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam next March - and would rather travel by train/boat/etc. than internal flights whilst I'm there.
Has anyone out there done this?
HELP!
:)

Hi
Yes,most travellers in Asia use the bus's,especially in Thailand as they are very cheap and fast and great roads.
Cambodia its minibus's on pothole dusty roads and the Mekong River good and bad boats.
Vietnam is bus's,boat and train on reasonable roads.
Laos is minibus and bus's,cannot remember the roads!!!!!!!!!!!
www.airasia.com is the Ryanair of Asia but why fly when you have great excitement and experences on the road with your fellow travellers.
Have a great trip and enjoy the road, will be somewhere!!!! out their in March.

When I was in Phnom Penh a few years ago I took a boat up to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat area.) The ride was pretty interesting. The boat we were on was sort of a local taxi making several stops. There were villagers selling "sticky rice" and drinks. The river passes through a very big lake with catfish the size of sharks. The boat ride was reasonably priced and took around 4 hours . Rainy season they can use a larger boat and dry season a smaller boat.

Saigon – Mui Ne beach ( nice beach and relax 2 or 3 days) – Saigon by road
Saigon – CaiBe – Vinh Long – Cantho by road and boat trip on Mekong River
Cantho – Chaudoc by road and boat trip
Chau doc – Phnom Penh by Spead boat

Hi,

Why dont you include Laos as well ? U will save on internal flights if u take this rouet: BKK by bus/train to Aranyaprathet, then cross into Cambodia via Poipet. By road to Sisaphon-Battambang and then fast ferry to Siem Reap, bus to PP via Kg Thom-Skul. From PP-HCMC by bus, and from here bus/train up to Hanoi (stop along them way), from Hanoi, cross into Laos to Vietianne, and from here either u go up north ( right up to Luang Namtha and cross over to Thailand via Huay Xia) or go down south up to Paske, and cross into Thailand via Chong Mek, and bus or train to BKK. I did this in one month (way to fast!,) but u can take 2 months - free and easy.

Have fun
