Hi

Can anyone tell me if and how I can delete a thread that I started which has now been fully answered.

Bascially I don't want to anyone else to waste their time replying.

Thanks

Graham.

Hi Graham,

Only moderators and admins can delete threads.

Two reasons why we do not allow users to delete threads:-

- deleting posts may disrupt the flow of a discussion
- The information posted may be useful for other users who are looking for the same thing, so why delete it?

Hey Graham!

Sorry - the answer to your question is - you can't. But, there are reasons why threads are not deleted.

Threads that have been posted on TP remain in the forums for use by members and non-members alike. As you have stated, you have received the information you requested. If your thread was deleted, someone requiring the same information would not have access to a great resource. The threads are there for everyone to use and respond to, even when the original poster is finished with them. If a member replies to a post that has outlived it's usefulness by (let's say) you - that response may be of use down the line for someone else. It would be a disservice to the 40,000+ members of TP to remove threads that could provide vital information.

Threads that are 6 months to 1 year old are usually considered "dead" threads. That means people have stopped posting in them. But, I know from my own experience, that I have done searches for information and old threads have been quite useful. From what I understand, as long as there is adequate storage space on the servers, threads will not be deleted. They are the property of TP and TP is solely responsible for what happens to any particular one.

I understand why you are asking the question. And, consider this - if the information posted in your thread was helpful to you - it will be helpful to some else too. That "someone else" will be happy it was available to them.
