My partner and I will get married in ZA next year (somewhere in the Free State, that's where he's from) and I'm very lucky because my parents/brother and some of my friends will be able to make it!
After that I said to them, we would travel together (until they fly back home to AUT) and so I was wondering if anyone could suggest us a little route/things we should do in those 10/14days.
We are all into sports (hiking, cycling, running etc.) and love to be outdoors. We are also interested in other cultures (not meaning museums only!)We also love the beach, but I guess when we leave somewhere in the freestate, it's gonna be too far to travel.
I was thinking about renting a little van/bigger car, bec we will be at least 5people and I thought we could share the petrol.
I haven't got a clue how much money we will need, so it would be awesome if you could give me some numbers.
We don't have to eat out at all and the accomodation can be the cheapest (camping- if possible in ZA?, backpackers etc.)
I really hope to get a few answers, bec at this stage there are so many things we have to organise and it would make life a little bit easier for us!
thanks a lot
Kathi and Charles
P.S.: we will be there in July, that means Winter, ey?
WHERE IN OFS ?? - as OFS has some really good areas, especially arround Ficksburg.
Hire vehicle is easy, Rand is R6.5 to USD, Draft beer in pub R13 so its a cheap country.
Would suggest you travel down to Cape Town ( Train or Bus ) save 900 KMS on hire car or fly. Hire car at backpackers lodge - there are plenty - see Cape town adventures , then move up the aestern coastline all the way to Durban using hire car or Baz Bus. There's plenty to do in SA
You could leave folks in Cape Town and they fly to JHB and return while U 2 do the caost route.
Camping possible, but why when U can stay in hostels have a good time and a double room is CHEAP in must of them.
MONEY - bring what U can afford, remember her petrol CANNOT be bought on credit card
Hi there Kathi
Using Bloemfontein in the Free State as a starting point I suggest you make your way down to Port Elizabeth.
Check out Kalula.com for cheap airflights around SA.
From there make your way down the garden route stopping.
For wild animals visit the Addo Elephant park near Port Elizabeth for a day trip. They have the big 5.
After that either do the Baz bus or hire a van or combi to do the Garden route stopping off st Plettenberg bay, Knysna George and Mossel Bay,
Storms river mouth has a number of short trails you can walk in a day as well as lovely scenery and a restaurant.
You can camp or hire accommodation there as well.
Natures valley and the Groot River pass between Storms river and Plettenberg bay should not be missed.
Stay over at Mossel Bay, theres lots of accommodation at Hartenbos where its self catering and then do a trip inland to Oudtshoorn and the Cango caves, crocodile and ostrich farms. (Day Trip)
You can also stay over in Oudtshoorn for the night and then travel from there along the R62 to Cape Town.
Lovely scenery and some spectacular mountain passes.
Leave 4 days for the culture and wine tasting and tours in Cape Town.
Theres lots to do and see.
If you need someone to show you around let me know.
[ Edit: sorry, no promos in the forum please. ]
Thanks a lot for your help.
I'll have a look at a map to find out out, which areas you guys are talking about.
The only thing is, we haven't got a huge budget to spend, but I'll work it out, how much everything would be.
keep in touch
just checked out kulula.com, but Bloemfontein is not an option to chose.
Can you only fly from bigger cities like Joburg etc.????
which cheap airline would have flights from Bloem as well?
