I´m just about to quit my job after 6 years to go travelling. I´m going to be in Oz from january onwards, i´ve just got my working holiday visa aand am begining to look for work. I´m really interested in doing something other than just working in bars and would love to get into some project work as i have been a senior project manager in a FMCG company for the last few years. I am especially interested in the wine sector and was wondering if anybody had any tips for me !
I would suggest that you check out web sites for jobs. The government has a job search web site that also has whats called a harvest trail section. Here you can get work at local vinyards, grape picking. It is a great job in summer, get to meet heaps of nice people. If you show a keen interest in the whole wine producing, selling business you may pick up extra work.
There are tons of vinyards along the east coast of Australia. Places such as the Hunter Valley and also where I live on the NSW south coast. I'd suggest you send out resumes to these places.
I think you may struggle to get such a high profile job when your visa only allows you to work for three months for any one company. Ive found easy enough to get interviews for good jobs, but my experience is that the employers are vary wary about employing backpackers - they think that they will just vanish without warning to go travelling.
You might get lucky though
