I am travelling to South America soon and as I will be up in the Andes, need a warm sleeping bag. I am backpacking so am interested in any warm sleeping bags that are as compact and light as possible.
If anyone can recommend one that is about -5degree comfort it would be much appreciated.
Not sure if you'd be able to find one down in Australia, but you might want to check out www.mountainhardwear.com. They're on the expensive side, but mine has kept me nice and toasty on several occasions (wearing a T-shirt) whilst my tent mate was shivering to death while wearing all of their winter clothes.
Not a sleeping bag, but I never camp without them during cooler/cold weather. Not even sure if you have them down under! They're these small packets of a powder that, when you open the plastic bag they're kept in and shake them up, it causes a chemical reaction that produces heat for up to 18 hours. I like to take a few and throw them in my sleeping back, and in the morning, put one in each pocket, maybe keep one on my back (easy to hold in place if you're female ). They're widely available in the states and come in different sizes.
