Moblogging

That's crazy internet talk for Mobile Web Logging, the latest feature to hit Travellerspoint.

Thanks to Sander's hard work, you will now find this nifty little function available for your blogs. Essentially, it allows you to post entries to your blog from email or MMS. This is particularly fun when you consider the possibilities of posting quick and dirty entries from your mobile phone, even when you can't find an internet café. See some of the recent entries in my blog or this mobile demo blog for examples. It's not easy finding a computer at the top of the CN Tower in Toronto, but it's nice to keep everyone updated Sam's phone provided me with the pics (it's better quality than my phone) over blue tooth, then I emailed it straight to my blog while still 340+ meters above solid ground. Similar entries were posted from Sam's phone when we met with Pardus in Dublin and GregW in Toronto

If this new feature just has you written all over it, turn it on by going into the 'settings' tab of your blog. There you will have the option to 'Allow posting blogentries per email'. Select it and submit the changes and you will be presented with a randomly generated email address. Any emails you send to this email address will automatically be posted to your blog with you as the author. Any photos you attach will be uploaded and attached to your entry. They won't immediately be visible in your photo gallery though - go into your photo gallery at some other time to specify the country they were taken in and tick the 'Photograph' box to ensure they show in your gallery.

Gawd blimey. Is there anything that poor unpaid, overworked (sorry) Sander can`t do? How about allowing posts made by telepahy?!

Looks great! Only problem is that i can`t yet test it, as the Japanese mobile network is completely unrelated to any other in the world, so my phone doesn`t work here. Only one thing to be done here - (yells) Sander..!

Great to see this live!!! Just to be sure it's clear, you don't HAVE to be sending your updates via mms or email from a mobile. It will work from a regular email account too!

That's great news for those of you travelling with laptop/pda (like me) who are typing a nice long blog entry and only want to connect to the internet for a minute or so while posting the blog entry online (including pics). It's not as nice as being able to name and give every picture a title and tag, but it works pretty sweet for those that are paying per minute just to connect their own computer to an internet connection. You can always go back and edit your pictures upon return.

(Naturally) all the tags like [ b ], [ i ] etc. (without the spaces) will work just like the would if you were typing them in your blog management area.

To commemorate the occassion, I have just posted this entry by sending an email from my regular email program to my blog, with attached picture of the bundle of joy that we're expecting on the 16th of March next year in Norway!!!

Yes, dream blogging is in development now and we'd call it zzzlogging. All you need is one of our special dream blogging pillows.
