Quoting Isadora

This thread has gone from debate to repetitive pontification and enlightening no one. I understand the need to make points, but they have been made and nothing more has been added.

VERY well said.

(Isn't a debate when more than one person is involved? Not one person just replying to their own posts? Just an observation.)

I do agree with some of the points that have been made, but what good is commenting on a point when it has been made 18 times in the thread?

Personally, I do NOT think this thread should be deleted - but I do think that it has run it's course and should be closed to comments. This will be a decision that can only be made by the Overlords. Until that time - it is still open...

I didn't mean delete the thread....I meant close it to further comment. There are a lot of thought provocing posts, and I re-read the entire thing this morning (no, I didn't have anything better to do ;) ) But lately it has just become a complete rehashing...or a poking the bear thread, if you will.....but hey, I knew what I meant in my own head :)

Quoting wotthefiqh

I find the suggestion to delete this thread morally and culturally repugnant, and the so-called reason for doing so intellectually bankrupt and an insult to my intelligence.

Ok then change the name of the thread to "ramblings around the magic roundabout".
The role of devils advocate (for which wotthefiqh has assumed on most parts well)relating to any links between 'Islam and Terror' have been played out.

The intellectual debate of this thread finished a long time ago, there has been no new or stimulating conversation for months. Just the same one eyed bigoted lines in a different guise.

P.S.No offence meant, but the link with the 'jase&Mikey' thread - now who's insulting who?

My only point isn't to delete this thread, it's simply to point out that "freedom of speech" has been used far too often to push forth the views of a few rather than the view of the many as is called for under true democracy.

Under true democratic rules, this thread would've been halted a long time ago since the vast majority here feel it should be halted.

I disagree Q. In a true democracy every view should be free to be expressed. Today too much is regulated and censored. People get fed up with being told what they can say and what they can't and this proves an ideal hunting ground for extremists of any colour.
'They don't allow us to say what we think, so therefore we must be right and the government fears the truth'
To paraphrase Voltaire: 'Although I don't agree with you I defend to the death your right to say it'. That's democracy.
I agree there should be a limit to freedom of speech, and that would be when other basic human rights are infringed, most notably the Right to Live. But what's better to prove somebody to be a fool by letting him talk. And besides, there's nothing wrong with controversy, it makes people think and gets them talking.

As for the question whether the thread should be closed or not. It is not up to us, after all TP is not a democracy. It's much more an autocracy with Sam and Pete making the rules and at the end of the day decide what's going to happen on TP.

Down with Political Correctness!

I second Phil - there's too much of that "You can't disagree with me - we're a democracy!" thing going around. Phil will inevitably suggest we all practice silly walks and eat lemon curry. I, on the other hand, think we should encourage flying sheep and the sale of large tracks of land.
