My husband and I will be honeymooning in the Maldives (Atolls in the Indian ocean) in mid december and will be stopping in Singapore on the way back for 7 days (Dec 24th-Dec 31). We are thinking of a few options to do a side trip for 4-6 days. Bei Jing, Bangkok, Bali, or Singapore to Malaysia to Bangkok via train. We enjoy bargain market shopping and scenic places (great views-not necessarily temples). What do you suggest? Not crazy about mall shopping. Plus, with the Maldives being as beautiful as they are, not sure another beach destination is needed. Any adice would be helpful. There are many great deals on Singapore air from Singapore so we can take a flight to almost anywhere in Asia.
Enjoy your honeymoon, soons great fun, wishing you both well.
Your spoiled for choice for destinations but their going to be very expensive!!!!!!!!!!!! for your dates and I would book up now for your choosen one.
Bangkok has it all from staying down the backpacker Khao San Rd and exploring its many great sites maybe even a day trip upto the Bridge on the River Kwai,2hrs away.
Phomn Penh for no light pothole streets,Sharkeys Bar and the killing fields.
Saigon for hustle and bustle and alleys to get lost in and defy deaths door by crossing the roads.
Rangoon for a feel of gentle history!!!! and friendly people.
Delhi and a trip to the Angra Wat is a great feel of India.
www.airasia.com has very cheap flights.
Dump your honeymoon clothes and just have a change of light clothing and have a great 7 days, extend it out their as its cheaper.
Have a nice one and enjoy your travels, good girls should'nt read my book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you go to Bangkok you might have a few days down Pattaya, its 2hrs away by bus and its on the coast with nice Jomtien beach for relaxing.
Its also a sex city with 10'000 bars and 10 girls each bar so bring handcuffs and a blindfold for your new hubby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a nice day

dun miss out the phat phong & the chat tu chak market in bangkok, huge and good bargain.
travelling from Singapore to Bangkok by train will take a lot of your time.
I would rather stay for a weak in Singapore with a short trip to Melaca and KL in Malaysia.
If you don't want mall shopping and beaches, i would head for Hanoi. A couple of days looking around, and then a couple of days up in Sapa having a gentle trek around the beautiful scenery (try to stay in the Cat Cat guest house in a room above the restaurant for an amazing view). After that head for an overnight stay on a boat in amazing Halong Bay, plus another night on Cat Ba island. Hey presto, one week used up, no beaches and not a mall in sight. The scenery around Sapa and Halong Bay is pretty amazing!!!!
I'm with Daveh.
Did Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay back in 2002 and they were fantastic.
The only trouble with Hanoi is that you will need winter woolies and heating going Dec time.
Its further away,1 day to get their and 1 day to get back.

When you have Maldives, why Bali ? Surely, u are not thinking of Kuta..Well, try something different...like a honeymoon experience in a cosy chalet up on a tree...at the Khao Sok National Park, near Suratani...
Just a thought !
Anyway, hope u have fun in the east!
