Hi Jennybaby, are you in Oz at the moment or flying in? What is your starting point and where will you be finishing? And transport, hostels, any particulart interests?

Hi jennybaby,

I had 16 days planned for the East Coast, and when i did the trip (with OzExperience) it was quite a rush. A number of places was literally a 1-day stop. In hindsight it would have been better to have an extra week or two.

I have to say that if you only have 12 days to do the East Coast then you may spend a lot of it on the bus! If you have no choice then i would only spend time at the places that you really want to stop at.

By the way despite being a bit of a rush the East Coast it was fantastic! I really enjoyed the experience and i hope you do too. I would definately recommend Fraser Island and Whitsundays.

Hope that helps.

Enjoy your travels,
James

Hi Jas,

Its me again! Hope you dont mind me rambling with some more questions Think i've almost finished my itinerary now and i actually have two spare days (apart from the minumum 10 you're supposed to have) when travelling the east coast (yes i know, wow - two whole days! lol).

Anyway, i just cant decide what to do bus-wise - wether OzExp, Greyhound, Magic bus, etc. I was decided on OzExp but after reading various forums im just not sure. Firstly i am really limited on days and so if i cant get a seat on the bus then im a bit knackered lol. If you book a seat far in advance, is it guaranteed that it will be saved for me? And if i stay somewhere for an extra day (like Byron bay for example) and telephone OzExp 24hrs in advance, whats the liklihood of me getting a seat (say between 0 - 100% ). Im just worried about being stuck somewhere for more than a day or so otherwise i'd be well stuffed!

Also, whats the age range generally for the OzExp bus? Im 29 so im worried about being too old (but im young at heart, and like to party.. to a degree lol ).

Thanks a lot,

James

Hey James,
Looking into all the posts here and looking back at good times travelling the East Coast back in 2003 :-)
I would say that since you're stripped with time Greyhound is the best choice. Yes, you won't meet as many people as you would have on Oz Exp but Oz Exp do call themselves "the slowest bus company in Australia" for a reason... Their guides are good and it's social but they tend to not take the most direct route. Also, if you are 29 you will most likely be one of the most "mature" fellas on the bus as it generally attracts more people 18-25. This depends on your personality and what you want of course.
Another good option is to hire a car, but then you are on your own even more. However, I have heared about a web site hiring cars that needs to be brought back to a place from another (a car that has been hired from Cairns to Sydney f.ex and needs to be brought back). This web site lets you rent the car for something like 1 dollar a day and you also get petrol money! You get a maximum amount of days to bring it to a location but since you are stripped for time maybe this might work after all?! Not 100 % sure about the adress but think its standbycars.com.au.
