Postings (including PMs)by some members requesting info on SEA border crossing, namely mainland SEA (Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand & Malaysia) got me thinking...
And with TP community now standing at more than 40,000 - and still growing - could we start a forum "SEA Border Talk", confining our experiences to crossings within mainland SEA ? I am sure there are numerous members who will be able to provide input of their most recent border crossing experiences for the benefit of new travellers who want to experience the "Mekong basin civilisation" and beyond.
We must agree that to a first-timer, an overland border crossing can sometimes be night-marish & painful. I am sure many of us have experienced this...even the frequent backpacker.
We can share these experiences...e.g. crossing a newly opened border crossing, attempting to try your luck at crossings used by locals...any suggestions and support for this?
Not trying to crush the thought, but I don't think it would be worth doing. What's wrong with discussing these topics in the Asia forum?
If we were to set up such a specific forum, several additional questions would arise:
1. Why can't we have an SEA forum, as well as an Eastern Europe, UK, Scandinavian, Western Europe, Northern Africa and a host of other similar regional forums?
2. Why can't we have border crossing forums for all of those as well then?
So, the problem is the inevitable result that we would need to add at least 30 new forums to make this possible. Then there's the issue of double posts - users would inevitably post in both the Asia and SEA border crossings forum.
So you can see, it doesn't seem feasible to me. Thanks for the suggestion though; we always appreciate the input
Originally I wanted to post it in the Asian forum (since the topic revolves around countries in SEA)...but i am glad it's been moved...tks.
