Another daft blog request (linking)...

Travel Forums System Talk Another daft blog request (linking)...

Just a couple of little things which i think would make sense and tidy the system up a bit -

1. If you hit the "Blog" button, and do search, you can`t actually search for somebody specifc`s blog (i.e. If i search for gelli, i get one hit, and only because i wrote the word Gelli in one of my entries). I know you can access it from other places on the site, but as that seems a vaguely logical place somebody may search for one, it couldn`t harm to have that link/search option there as well. It seems a strange ommission to me.

2. Similarly, and more randomly, any chance of switching the order on the members details pages, so that blogs comes higher up (say, before hobbies/fav places etc) so its more immediately obvious?

3. Is there a problem with text wrapping on the blogs? I`ve just notiied that a couple of my recent entries look very strange in places due to line breaks of words (despite the fact that it is written as one Paragraph), and i can`t seem to edit it to fix it. Is this due to certain skins, or something else (i.e. My stupidity)

There was a 4 and 5 as well, more little things, but i`ve completely forgotten what they are

Hey Rich,

Fair points.

1. Yes, needs to be changed and will be shortly as I am doing some work on the search function.
2. I think Sam has some changes in store for this? To have it at the top around the quote area.. is that right Sam or weren't we moving it up quite that high?
3. No idea what you mean! Your paragraphs look fine to me.. can you point me to a specific paragraph where the issue occurs?

Let me know when you think of 4 and 5 :)

Dope; hit some weird combination of buttons and closed the tab. That's one annoying thing about working in Tabs, there's no back button.... okay, trying to retrace what I just wrote

2. I actually made some changes here not too long ago to get the blogs a bit more prominent, but I agree that they could be better still. I'll see what I can come up with; I'm leaning towards top right hand side. We actually have this listed as one of the things on the roadmap as well because we'd like to divide up the profile into different pages I think. For example my profile is pretty darn long and contains links to three blogs as well as a diary... that's not ideal. That's a pretty big development though, so will go for a quick intermediate fix for the time being.

Could your other request possibly have had to do with links from your blog, seeing as it's in the title of the thread??

Cheers,

Sam

Ok, had a quick browse and seems that the last couple are ok, but if you go back to "Early fish and sleeping in a coffin", the area between teh 2nd and 3rd photos is squewiff, and then after the next lot of photos there`s a line which just has "to" on it. A chunk of that entry seems to have gone wrong somewhere, and i`m sure some of my past ones have as well as i`d been meaning to mention it beforehand.

The ideas for moving it the profile thingy around would be good, and i`ll leave that to the roadmap! Having said that, if you are playing with the profile, can i repeat a request from waaaaay back - can you make the Travel log thing easier to use, especially when you have visited a country multiple times? Sam`s is a long list as it is, and if i tried to do it, i`d probably be several dozen times longer... The reason i don`t have any Log is that as well as time to input it, it wouldn`t really be practical for me to add in all the dates for everywhere i`ve been and when, especially as virtually all of the countries i`ve been to have been multiple times, and some have literally been several hundred times

(basically, i have no idea how is best to add countries visited multiple times, without just doing open ended 10+year timeframes, which doesn`t really help anybody viewing)

No idea about 4 or 5 still, but will let you know if i happen tocome with it.

Are you really certain that there aren't any hard linebreaks in the text there? I can think of no conceivable way in which we would add them in. Could you perhaps have written that part of text in email first, and then copied it over, with the email client putting in those linebreaks without you noticing? (linebreaks might now show up in the textarea because it's the same width as where the linebreaks would be anyway - try opening notepad, resizing it really wide (or turning off wordwrap), and then pasting in the text from the textarea - if it wraps before the right edge, there are hard linebreaks present in your text that you need to delete.)

Definitely high up on the roadmap already :) In fact, if I am not very mistaken this is part of the next big update ...

I`ve had a play with it, and in SOME (not all) instances it seems as though there are hard line breaks in their, but i`ve no idea where they came from as it`s all been written directly into the TP engine, or occassionally, into word and then copied. Am playing around copying/pasting into different things to see how it looks that way and if i can work out a common theme
