...now that everyone has scared the shit out of each other with that. ill tell you that i have been flying since i was four, ive gone to chile and around america, and that i have never ever had a problem.
*you are MUCH more likely to die in a car, then in a plane.*
you arent scared of getting in a car, are you? airplanes wouldnt be around if they were these undependable deathmachines. yes, accidents happen, and flukes occur, but thats just like everything else in life. unless you wanna start getting paranoid about cars (yes i know your on the ground, but theres MUCH more 'debris' to hit on the 'runway' in a car) then just realize that planes are desinged to fly, and survive bad circumstances. scientifically, there not just going to drop out of the sky, barring a giant chainsaw from heaven chops the wings off. even if you have no engines you can safely land an airplane. hell, my freinds dad taught me how!(he flys airplanes)

so next time you want to drive instead of fly, realize your taking the muuuuch more dangerous route. but do whatever makes ya feel comfortable, i guess. if i had it my way, i would walk everywhere. cough* impractical*cough

Interestingly, despite the fact that i have never flown, i`m not actually scared of flying - or, rather, scared of the not flying thing if it drops out of the sky - in the slightest. To me thats very much a sh1t happens event. And i REALLY wanted to fly into the old HK airport, which is probably the single most likley major world airport to have a crash or accident. No logic at all.

i guess. if i had it my way, i would walk everywhere. cough* impractical*cough

I`m not going to even start on how dangerous walking can be, but i have enough scars and have been to enough funnerals to prove that that isn`t the safest way...

like you said, sh1t happens.
ive walked everywhere i can, and i still stand.
and your not the only one with scars.. those who went on the montreal trip that i showed mine to will tell ya. ive probably been through more shit than most people do in their life, if you wanna talk scars.

I can vouch for that! Evan took a wicked licking but keeps on ticking...

I fly all the time and I'm still not overly comfortable with the concept, although there's no way I'd give it up. In the past year I had an aborted take off and an aborted landing, both interesting and both scare the c**p out of the whole plane (naturally)!

The aborted take off wasn't anything major, but when you are gunning down the airport and all of a sudden the brakes go on, you can bet that everyone's hearts skips a beat. Turned out to be a door that wasn't properly closed.

The aborted landing was a month or two ago. We were about 50 meters off the ground and plane just started climbing really steeply again. Turns out there was another plane on our runway, so I'm pretty glad the pilot chose that route :)

I've experienced some pretty bad turbulence, but been told that planes can take quite a beating so generally am reasonably calm, although I do usually tighten my seatbelt some ... What annoys me sometimes is people taking photos with a flash in the middle of turbulence. It's as if the plane is hit by lightning and that will freak me out a little

Anyway, thanks for the horror stories. Set to board a plane again on Monday

It's all those free upgrades to business and first class that keep you going back for more!!!

Do you have any idea how much photos of the interior of a plane that is crashing are worth? You'd probably get a couple thousand on the spot for photos like that. When the Air France plane crashed recently in Toronto, I remember reading an article in the Toronto Star about how the photographer purchased photos from a passenger during a bidding war at the airport. I can't find the original article, but here is a synopsis: Focus on risks of citizen paparazzi.

I think that's why you see more and more "amateur video" and "amateur photos" of disasters nowadays. People are taking chances standing out in hurricanes and tornados because they know they can sell the pictures to a news outlet.

I've always hated flying with a passion. I was scheduled to take a flight from Boston to Los Angeles a few years ago on business & got stuck in traffic and missed my flight. I was lucky because about a half hour after the flight left Boston it crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. I don't mind being stuck in traffic so much anymore.
