But when I was in Beijing and Ulaan Baator, I noticed that other white people wouldn't even look at me.

It all depends on where you are, it seems. In allot of out of the way places, people eitehr are despeate for other travellers, or hate them and studiously ignore them as it spoils the illusion.

In Busan, Korea, all the white people - residents and others - often went out of their way to acknowledge another, but in most of Japan, everybody ignores one another. Except in a few obscure places when i`ve seen anotehr white person, and we`ve both been so surprisde by the iccuresnce that we haven`t eitehr acknowledged or ignored the other...

I rarely acknowledge other travellers or white people unless they do to me or klind look like they want it, if that makes sense.

Hey Hien.

i live in Sydney and i agree the flies are absolutely crap at the moment... It's cos of teh humidity and the heat. They are just bad at the moment... At least you don't work in a bakery where it is even hotter and the flies have seem to have decided to set up home there... :P nah you get use to it, it's just that combined with the heat they are really annoying... Also according to the news last week the fly situation has been aggravated by grass cuttings.. dunno why, maybe they breed in it.. anyway i'm sick of them. stupid flies... don't hate our city for the flies, we hate them too...

:P

In your case - I'm voting for the axe murderer theory.

Sorry Greg, I'm voting that it was the man purse that scared
them off

I say hello or acknowledge.. its just common courtesy.. however sometimes maybe I shouldn't, I do seem to be a magnet for lifes unfortunate victims

My train to work in Sydney seems to be full of flies every morning.

Was it full moon during the time you say hello to them?

I think you can get by with just different degrees of smiling...:)
and saying hi back when others say it first.
