I am hoping to travel to the South pacific islands early next year, possibly also stopping in Thailand and Australia, but I don't even know where to start planning ie:flights, decent accommodation, safety for a single woman. If anyone has any hints for me, I would greatly appreciate it!!
I found Rob Kay's best of fiji guide really helpful - it is available on the web. There are also some fantastic second hand books out there on the pacific islands, and although some of them are about life 30 to 60 years ago, they provide a real sense of what the Islands have to offer . . . .so go hunting in any secondhand bookstores near you!
With regard to more specific advice . .sorry, I cannot assist. However this is such a good website, i know advice will come your way soon!
It kind of depends what you are after;
If you like diving for instance, Micronesia would be a pretty good choice. Palau seems to be a very well developed destination with some stunning scenery (haven't been, but probably my first pick to try). Also plenty of WW2 wrecks to be looked at.
I used to live in the Solomon Islands; unfortunately there's been too much unrest there recently to be able to recommend it, otherwise I would.
Haven't really been anywhere else besides those two (well, Fiji when I was very young).
