I'm coming to Brazil February 2006 for 3 months (and cannot wait!) and staying in Rio for the first 3 weeks. I've got something sorted out for the first two weeks but the prices for hostels are astronomical during carnival week so I was wondering whether its easy to find somewhere during carnival for cheaper.. maybe people rent out rooms in their homes for reasonable rates? Basically what i'm getting at is - is it really worth booking in advance and paying $R150 a night during carnival for a hostel (my budget 4 accom during carnival week is about $R400/week) or should i chance it and find something cheaper when im out there? Any advice much appreciated.
I read your question about Carnival 2006 in Rio, and I have to say, that this is true, the prices for Carnival in Hotels, Hostels and etc, are astrological high, for sure, and they ask everytime for a package of 4-5 days, payments in advance, it is usual there at Carnival like you told.
As of you asked for any other options, I am not sure of what you wanna do...like if you have to be in Rio at Carnival.
But I guess you probably want to be, 'cause of the parades, right?
If so, maybe this Travel-Help page I created can help you to find some other options in lodging, there are a list of hostels and also some infos on Apartment rentings, please have a look on here:
If this does not help you as much as you want, please contact me again, or for any further info!
I am an experienxced Brazil traveller, helper and also do speeak portuguese fluently as of I have many brazilian friends!
Hi again, thanks for the message to me.
Yes, the page i gave you, does ciontains hostels, hotels and also accomodations in apartments in Rio.
I found a nice hotel in Flamengo district recently too, which is not listed in this page yet, the adress is http://www.scorialriohotel.com.br/index.htm
and it offers a four days stay in a single room for 880 brazilian Reais...
maybe this is in your budget, because the location is next to metro, so you can reach the beaches or the city center well.
