i did a similar thing a few years ago - it was very expensive so you need to take a lot of money especially if you want to see so much in a short amount of time because you will spend a lot on transport.
you need to average about 20 euros a night just for accommodation at hostels. plus food plus transport plus costs if you want to go into museums or other such things.

i covered a lot of ground in the time i was travelling but would prob recommend going slowly and really getting to know things rather than just trying to see everything.
also one of the things i regret is planning my trip too much so i couldnt change my plans or decide on things once i got somewhere - we made our trip too inflexible. be careful you dont do that!

: )

I think I budgeted about 50 euros a day, excluding transportation. I did end up having some money left over some days and some days I went over budget but it evened itself very well out.
I would think trains are the way to go, but you could look into low cost airlines if you are travelling from a large city such as Paris or Amsterdam..

Mike,

I am not sure about how much the entire trip will cost you but you should look into globalfreeloaders.com. This is a website where you sign up to show visitors around town or maybe even give a traveler a place to stay. In return you can do the same when you are traveling around Europe. I am signed up but have not personally tried it...looks like an interesting way to get a local perspective and meet some new people.
