To cut a very long story short, we've been married for almost 9 years!

James, that is one of the sweetest stories I have ever heard! And a romantic one at that! :)

And it's true!

And it's also true that her father wanted to kill me for a good while

If you love somebody just open up tell the person that you care and tell her why you love her.Share up that feeling before its too late.

Just think life's too short, it's better to regret the things that you have done than the things that you haven't. Go by this and you'll never look back-the courage it gives you-lol! I live by this!

Anyway, I got her phone number (actually, it was written on the phone and I noted it as I left), and asked her out. To cut a very long story short, we've been married for almost 9 years!

thats the funniest shit ive ever heard! blimey indeed! heheheheh oh dear me where is my monocle.

i suck at relationships. and not becuase i cant get the girl, i know im very good with women.. its just.. i never have any idea whether or not i want the relationship, and i take commitments way to seriously, and im afraid of being 'tied down' or becoming hopelessly over-attached to someone that might not be right for me. basically, im too crazy to be in a relationship.. so i always end up deciding not to... but in truth, im very happy this way.. it just pushes my buttons that i cant ever come to a conclusion on where i stand. its like the only thing i can't figure out about myself, where as everything else i know is solid! oh dear, there i go talking too much again.
later!

Actually, the more I think about this, the more offended I become. I know you meant it as a joke, Fiona, but this is one of the biggest things I hate about modern dating.

A lot of women these days are afraid to give out their numbers or give out false numbers. While most guys feel too awkward about directly approaching a woman for her number in public (she also might not want to give out the impression they're "going out" either...ooohhhhh....). And it's "wrong" for a woman to ask a guy out, of course. You (not you specifically Fiona) can't have it both ways. He's not exactly climbing up to her window with a bouquet of flowers and an bloody kitchen knife in the other hand, he's just calling her up in private so he can ask her out. What's wrong with that ? What would you have, some sort of 3rd party date arranger?? And of course, that would be too old fashioned....

I'm not saying it's all the woman's fault or the guys fault. It's not easy for a woman. But more women need to give us guys some slack as well. How can good relationships develop when everytime a guy uses his creativity and resourcefulness to find a girls number, he's automatically a "stalker". Again, it's not you Fiona, it's just this stupid automatic reaction that seems to be built into a lot of women these days, and the fact that something in our society has made it that way. I guess, Brendan's diatribes are rubbing off on me...

and im afraid of being 'tied down'

Hmmm. I think you`ve just managed to summarise my entire life, relationships and everything else - perfectly - in 7 words. And when somebody else writes it that way, it suddenly seems kind of depressing and daft in many ways

I`m also utterly useless at relationships, but thats virtually all down to those 7 words as well. It`s again kind of crazy and scary, but also probably very telling that at 26years old i`ve never yet actually lived in the same country as any of my girlfriends...

QZ - go for it my friend. Us TP idiots need a standard bearer to show us how it`s done!

And this from somebody who took HOW much convincing to travel further than Shoeburyness?!
