I know of the heightened alert for Bali. Has anyone or is anyone planning on visiting Bali during the last week in December?
Any input on where the best parts of Bali are? Things to do there?

stay away from kuta or even nusa if u have decided on bali, head for ubud or sanur...blend of culture and fine beach sands...quieter too!

with all the media reports of unrest in the thai-malaysian border at yala and narathiwat, i just returned from a visit to hatyai via danok...life goes on....people are getting to bali too!

Definitely stay away from Kuta, the place is terrible. I have been here 4 months now. Sanur is ok but a little boring, Ubud is definitely a great place to go to and stay for a while and chill out.
I have just got back from a great few days up on the east coast, driving around and snorkelling. Absolutely stunning, stayed on the foothills of the volcano, among rice paddies and forest really was beautiful.
My advice is to find a good base, somewhere where you can chill out and arrange these trips from. I am now living here but before I had a house I was staying at a beautiful hotel that had just been openrd buy an English family called Ellies. They knew loads of places to go, thatr were off the usual tourist trail and the location was great for getting round the island. There website address is wwww.ellies-bali.com, have a look. Bali is still lovely and no amount of bombs can change that. It is definitely business as usual here so come over
