A Special Useful Present! Any Ideas???

Striaght to the problem. I need to buy a present for my soon to be ex b/f for xmas/goodbye as he is off for 18 months in January! But what to buy him is proving difficult as I have never been travelling myself so have no clue what's needed and he is planning on traveling light. I want to buy him something useful but special! Any ideas?? I am losing my mind trying to think of something.

A compass. Believe it or not, it comes in handy even in big cities. That way he'll always think of you when he's wondering around some foreign city trying to find is way around.

a maglight or a swiss army knife --- they are also really handy and make good presents.

and if you are into the whole engraving thing you can do that on all those things...

a nice compass is the best thing for a traveller. ever. i used mine so much i have no idea how i wouldve survived without it. a good side gift, if you want, is a small book to for him to write in. i use em to write down my journey, but thats just cuase i love writing. its useful one way or the other.

a travel diary with a name on it and a pen would make a good gift.
