Hi All,

We are planning to go to Cambodia from Thailand. The flights seem to be expensive is there any way we can get there over land?

bus from BKK ( bus terminal ), to aranyaprathet, cross poipet border, sisaphon, and head for either siem reap or battambang, and from here bus to phnom penh, down south to (maybe sihanoukville, etc) and exit back to thailand at Trat.

also try thai airasia...they are on a promo....

I have done the overland journey Phnom Penh to Pattaya in one very long day, several times. I usually take public buses from Pattaya to Trat, van to the border, stay overnight in Koh Kong and either go by boat to Sihanoukville in the AM or share taxi to PP the next day. Very tough slog to get from Pattaya to PP in one day on public transport.

I have also been on the road from PP to HCMC, then open tour to Hue, VN. PM me if you want full details on any of this.

Hi
You will be travelling Thailand and its very easy to go into Cambodia as vegasmike6 and danalasta say but check your Lonely Planet SE Asia guide book and it has good routes but I like to go in one way and out a different way both as v & d state but longer and a more relaxing journey.
Have a few nights in Pattaya then jump a bus and down to Ko Samet Island for a few days then Cambodia border and stay the night.
Cross border and catch a boat to Sihanoukville and have a few days on Sihanoukvelle beaches then catch a minibus to Phnom Penh,if you are heading for Vietnam you need a Visa before you arrive at Viet border and one of the best and easyest and quickest places to get it is Sihanoukville(1hr),its worth a million $ that tip, dont tell anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Its valid for 30days so you can have a few days Phnom Penh and still have plenty of time(3weeks) to go down the Mekong River and see Saigon and back to Phnom Penh.
Then head for Angor Wat and upto cowboy guntown of Poipet and back into Thailand.
Whatever way you go have a great trip and enjoy your travels,I shall be along that road on my way to the Philippines early Jan.

Go to Tales of Asia for the best info on crossing overland, especially for up-to-date road conditions. As long as the highway between Poipet and Siem Reap isn't saturated from rain (and a bridge isn't out), that part of the trip should only take about 3 hours. It sounds like an impending nightmare from some of the horror stories, but it really isn't bad at all. Bumpy ride, but the touts in Poipet are more of a nuisance than anything else.

hi,
all very good advice above. I did BKK - Siem Reap about 5 weeks ago. took the cheap as chips train to the border and a taxi on the other side to Siem Reap. If there are a few of you travelling together then taking a taxi can be a pretty good option in comparison to the bus as in it's quicker, more comfortable and you can get dropped off at your hostel.
enjoy Cambodia, I found it brilliant.
