I just realized I wrote that GM is a powerful company... I meant GM companies are powerful.... Not that General Motors is powerful... although they are in their own domain...

Hmm it has been interesting reading everyone's views on this matter, and how it is affecting us all I still don't agree with GM foods but unfortunately it seems these days we are left with little choice

I think that if you can't do anything to stop it right now, then you should just read the labels and learn about biology and try not to put things into your mouth you don't think is healthy. Organic food can be found in a lot of places. No one can force you to eat something.

Peace,

Steph

I have heard some sound points made, and would like to add as Masseur and general Holistic Health Junky!

1. You are what you eat - apart from the air you breath and the water you drink I suppose

2. The % of our income we spend on food has decreased by some huge figure in the last few decades. We are consumer junkies and spend all our money on gadgets and clothes, where before there was nothing to buy but mainly food!

3. You can have your small impact on the economy by buying the better organic food where possible, but life is for the living so don't get too anal about it.

Well, i am doing my GCSE courswork for I.T based on GM food and i think that the spread of GM food around the world is inevitable. The introduction of GM food is fine with me because in the end the public will buy and eat the type of food they wish to, labelling GM food is neccessary.

The comment from Saurav is very disturbing, here we have a young person writing GCSE work on what seems to be a tottaly wrong basis, the bland acceptance of GM products on the basis that the public will buy and eat the foods they want to.I do hope you will reconsider and do real in-depth research into your work instead of starting off with a conclusion already reached.
This overlooks the real problems that crops by their very nature spread seeds. Tests here by the scientists involved in GM production have brought the admission from them that they were "surprised" at how far the seeds were taken on the wind, most people predicted this at the start, it is logical, but these people don't want to see the logic.
However surely the real menace is the cross pollenation and fertilisation that cannot be controlled.
The subsequent effects on the products that are pollinated with GM pollen cannot be forseen and these products will not be labelled, how can they?
As always the opinions of silent majority will be overlooked. The process has started and crops have been grown in outdoor open sites, not under " controlled laboratory conditions" so it is happening already.
Will it be stopped - what will be the ultimate effect -who can say.

here is a link(http://www.debatabase.org/details.asp?topicID=12) that has a good over veiw of the topic.
G M discussion is one i havent spent alot of time on given all the other things in the world that seem to grab ones attention, but it needs attention. the amazing thing is that we just let these companies
decide our future, with or without consent, this is looking more and more like our future.

peace.

Bob Flint,

So you are saying that "GM" seeds will pollinate with (for lack of a better term) "non-GM" seeds no matter what? What are "GM seeds" and what are "non-GM seeds"? Are you saying that humans have some magical ability to create seeds out of nothing? Please explain yourself.

Saurav,

I agree with Bob Flint that you should really do much more research on your thesis than that. How would you even expect to pass? Find out what Genetically Modified foods really are and how they affect us and then write about if this is justified. Don't you dare talk about tolerance. That will fail you, and I guarantee this.

Hmmm, i see. I guess i need to look at GM food in more depth so i understand more.

Thx fo helping me out, you've gotten me to change my views on GM food so my coursework will be aimed at preventing GM food instead of encouraging it.
