i have just recently come back from malawi. absolutely amazing! have now started uni again for the third time. I thought this trip would get rid of my itchy feet-but no. i cant seem to see the point of anything as it just means that i am delaying my next trip.
Everybody must know what im on about? how the hell do you cope?
Either you suck it up and stick it out in university, or you quit school and go travelling again.
If you decide to stay at university, here's some tips that might help. They've helped me.
Treat your hometown like you are a tourist. You'd be surprised how much we miss going on locally because we develop patterns that we follow without thinking about it. Go out and explore different areas of the town you are in (or the surrounding towns). Take day trips to places you haven't been before. Break out of your routine, and do something different.
Read about where you have been. When I read about places I have been in the past, it is like reliving the trip, and it makes me happy. Same thing with posting advice here, actually. It's like being there again (kind of).
Think about what you are doing. If you are not seeing the point of the course of study you are taking, then ask the question - is this the course of study I should be taking? When I am doing something I enjoy, coming back from travels I am excited about getting back at it. When I am doing something I don't like, it's like death coming back to work or study. Use your experience of returning to ask yourself the question "what should I be doing with my life? How can I do something that I feel is important?" Too often we end up doing something just because we have started it. Don't be afraid to always be asking where you should be going, and don't just follow the path because that's what made sense 2 (or 5 or 10 or 20) years ago.
I tried tough act'in Tenactin, but to no avail. My feet still itch!
I wouldn't recommend doing anything drastic like dropping out of school. Stick it out, make and save some money and then travel your heart out. That, or obtain a degree that lends itself to living or traveling to exotic places. Also, as a student, there are countless opportunties for study or volunteering abroad.
