I first arrived in Australia on a working holiday visa in Sept '05 and have been in Sydney since. My aim was to find work but the job hunting has been hard work and still haven't land anything even casual work. I have a disability which makes it even harder. I'm now living in a nice flatshare where I moved in last month. It's cheaper to pay the rent and was glad to have my own independence. I thought I would have a job by now and now I wish I hadn't moved in as I could have moved on travelling to other places.
I'm going crazy and I'm finding it hard to cope. I'm even worried I won't find a job before Christmas! I can't move out of the flatshare until feb as by then I plan to move on down to Melbourne. I have some friends coming out to Sydney for Christmas and New Year which I'm looking forward to.
Does anyone got any suggestions what should I do??
I'm not sure that i will be of any help but you don't say what your disability is but surely in Sydney in one of the many shops they may be looking for staff, even if your just hanging or pricing clothing or bringing in deliveries, i'm not sure how they work out there, i'm assuming it's the same as over here!
I would have thought shop work would have been esy to find, when i go out there that's what i'm hoping tho i have management experience-i just dont know what to expect on the job front-like you really!
Actually another thought-why not go through a job agency, someone who i as sharing a room with she was signed up to an agency-they'll get you a job quicker than you prob could???
Good luck x
I was in Sydney earlier and I also saw adverts in shops asking for help. Maybe try the busier Town Hall area where there are tons of shops, I'm sure you will be able to find something soon. Alternatively, lil j's suggestion of a job agency might prove helpful. Ask around your neighbourhood, maybe one of the tenants would know of something.
