Hi, my name is Barbara and I will be going to Buenos Aires in February 2006 and planning to stay there for about 6 months. I'm looking for a furnished apartment to rent around plaza Mayo but it looks to me that they're all quiet expensive. A friend of mine lives in Cordoba and he pays about 70 dollar a month but these furnished appartments in Bs. As. are much more expensive. Wouldn't it be easier to just look at the ads in the newspaper and try to find an apartment that way instead of renting these expensive expat apartments ? Can somebody advice me on this ? Thanks !!!!!
Why on earth would you want to be in the Microcentro, which is indeed one of the most expensive barrios in the city?
Instead, try San Nicolas, Montserrat or San Telmo, or, for something slightly more residential, Alto Palermo or Barrio Norte. Prices will probably be considerable lower in those areas.
The ads that you will find in most papers are targeted at locals; foreigners pay much more, unless you are in the fortunate position to find an appartment-owning porteño willing to give you a garantia.
good luck; email me at bentivoglia SQUIGGLYTHINGY yahoo etc if you have other questions. I may be able to fix you up with an acquaintance of mine who is a real estator.
It´s hard to hear but is not a new: Buenos Aires is a problematic city to rent But it´s possible.
Like a turist you´ll not be able to rent like a local, also locals we have troubles, Owners ask for security, not money...
But visitng Buenos Aires is a must!!! I recommend you downtown area, like Congreso close to Avenida de Mayo or Recoleta and Palermo area.
Palermo is good, but even try a little further out in Belgrano, Nunez, Olivos or Vicente Lopez. IMO, these suburbs are the best.
Pero Palermo es la barrio mejor.
