Does anyone know if I will be able to get a visa for Vietnam at the border post when I enter the country? I'm going to enter from China at Friendship pass. If not, would I be able to get a visa in Hong Kong?

Many thanks for any help.

The Vietnamese do not allow 'visa on arrival' at the overland border crossings. There is a way to do this if you arrive by air and get an 'approval letter', but that does not help you. There is a VN Embassy in HK, so you can get it there. The 30 day clock starts when it is issued, but not when you arrive, so plan accordingly.

I believe you can apply for a Vietnam visa at a consulate in Nanning (nearest major city to the Friendship Pass) or Guangzhou (where you'll presumably pass through enroute from Hong Kong).
