Going out in Brazil

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Going out in Brazil

Just a question to anyone who's been to Brazil really.. I'm a single male going solo in Brazil for 3 months in 2006. I've got points of contact but I'll be staying most of the time in hostels meeting other travellers I expect. But i wanted to know how friendly and approachable Brazilians are in clubs and bars.. Coming from London there is definately a quite "cold" attitude towards people and especially towards foreigners which is why Brazilians, Spanish, Italians etc (any non-speaking English nationality) generally tend to stick together. I've noticed Brazilians i meet here are really friendly but is it like that in Brazil? Will i get a hostile reception from some people for being a foreigner or "gringo" as they call it? Are the women quite approachable when you go out or do they generally tend to avoid foreigners? I speak a little bit of Portugese (probably just about enough to have a very basic conversation!) so I guess this might help a little... So if anyone's got any useful bits of advice or anecdotes from their time enjoying the nightlife in Brazil please let me know - I'd love to know what to expect!

Brazilians are the easiest going people in the world, so don't worry.
They also enjoy talking to foreigners (especially europeans).
I'm european myself and have lived in Brazil for about a year.
When asking gringoes here what they like the most about Brazil,
90% would answer the brazilians:-) However, not many speak english...

cheers, Sol

Approaching is amazingly easy here Brazil, people are quite open, conversation is not a problem at all. Definitly you will find no problems in that subject, and the women are the prettiest in world.

Take a look at this english website here:,7451,1650828,00.html

this is my statesĀ“capital.

So yeah, donĀ“t worry should be all good.

Florionapolis looks great! I'll definately pay it a visit as I'll be taking in a lot of the South of Brazil by bus on the way to Buenos Aires.
