I think I've seen this question asked before on this forum, but I can't remember where and when. So this is the question I pose to all...
"What should one pack in their backpack when travelling?"

Interested to see where this goes..

Noa

It comes up frequently, and a few searches will probably bring up lots of discussions from the past.

The short answer is as little as possible! One oft stated rule of thumb is to lay out only the things that you think essential, and then take half the clothes and twice the money.

I took three's of everything clothing wise.
Didnt need travellers cheques or american dollars as previously advised.

I suppose it depends where you are heading, if its somewhere like Bangkok or Mumbai or somewhere populated then dont bother with any toiletries or suncreams or anything as its cheaper to get such items in most countries. Even tablets, and prescriptions are cheaper!

If you are going off the beaten track then make sure you have a decent medical kit, mossie net, pen knife, string, sewing kit, clock, all toiletries, two pairs of footwear, warm clothes, waterproofs, repellents, and bog roll. And the relevant cards, travellers cheques and currency.

As it is, here in Khao San road, Bangkok you can get clothes, shoes, books, rucksacks, penknives, Lonely Planet guides, water bottles, satchels, wire locks...oh bloody everything.....
