Hi all,

I was just speaking to my Mum's friend the other day and she was telling me that when she landed in Oz about 6 years ago, each passenger was sprayed from head to toe with this disinfectant spray before they got off the plane.

I said I'd never heard of this happening from anybody else, but just thought I'd ask on here to see if its happened to any of you?

Kate x

No, flown into Oz thrice, and never even heard of such a thing. Did she come from some high-risk country, at the time of some kind of widespread animal disease? (Don't remember exactly, but wasn't that around the time when the BSE scare was followed in short order with some kind of bird disease and something else?)

Hmmmmmm, good point! I think that WAS around the time of mad cow disease, cjd and goodness knows what else!

Maybe it'll happen again what with Avian-flu now apparently on the verge of becoming a global pandemic................

Yup, I flew into Melbourne on 31 October and the cabin crew were busy spraying the whole cabin about 15 minutes before we landed. According to the announcement from the pilot, it's a requirement from the Australian government that the cabin of all inbound planes must be sprayed with disinfectant before landing.

I got the spray treatment too when I went to Sydney in early November. Not a big thing, really.

Was probably to do with the foot and mouth outbreak in the UK a few years back.

Oh and we landed in Sydney a few days ago and did not get the spray.

I've had it that the plane has been sprayed (just a quick walk through the cabin), but never that they sprayed every person from head to toe! And usually there's no spraying at all. I wasn't sprayed on my last entry a month or so ago at least. Maybe it depends which airline you arrive on ..
