Hi there, I am planning a trip to Egypt (my sister is in Cairo university) next july for 4 to 5 weeks. I would like to know the best parts of Egypt (I know about the pyramids and the sprawling and bustling city of Cairo). What about public transport in Egypt? Is the train efficient or is it better to take the bus. What could be a good day-budget outside Cairo (incl. accomodation, food and transport)? Thanks in advance, Wouter

For me the best parts of Egypt were Siwa and Dahab, but it really depends what your into and what type of trip you're planning, pm if you want more detailed info

Thanks Raven, I've seen that Siwa is an oasis, must be quite relaxing to stay there. For me travelling to Egypt is a mix of culture and relaxing (so pyramids but also sharm-el-sheikh). Have you been to the south as well, what's it like? What's a good day budget (in case of travelling low-budget). Cheers,

Hiya, last year we backpacked for four weeks around Cairo, Alexandria, Siwa, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbal, and Dahab. Budget wise we spent about $25-28 per day.... we didn't stay in the cheapest of places or limit the amount of trips we did. We just learned to barter and have lots of patience. You could travel for cheaper if you stay in dorms , etc.... do you have places to stay yet ? I could send you a list of decent low budget places....
