Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Work/skill/sponsorship???

Was just having a discussion and wanted to know if any of you know if i would get a job a bit easier in Oz-in retail as i have management experience?

I was just discussing sponsorship and thinking that i wouldn't get sponsored as i have no 'real' skill.

I am assuming i would probably look for work in retail-it's what i know and surely i'd find something reasonably quick!

If you come over and look for a job between Sep and Nov no worries. at that time everyone hires for christmas. and since people stick around at those jobs til the followingyear it is pretty hard to find retail work outside that period. When i used to look for jobs anywhere from Jan to July they wouldn't even look at my resume... "apply in august to october" was always the reply.

hmmm...thanks for that! I'm not desperate to get a job as soon as i get out there, if i'm having trouble i'll go to a job agency i guess.

I assume you're going back with the working holiday visa yes?

One tip I was given...don't make it too obvious your a backpacker straight away. For example Never put a hostel address on an application form cos they'll just file it under b for bin. Do whatever you can to convince people you want to stay a long while, you're not just going to quit and go to Cairns in a week or whatever.

For example, let them know you've already travelled in Australia, and maybe invent a boyfriend or some family that is a reason to be in town a long while.

I met a lot of people who were offered sponsorship by their employers if they are good at the jobs and are useful to the company. So you could get it.

Thanks for that lil liz-i wouldn't have thought of that, luckily i met someone who works for Oz ex. so i'll use his address.(not that he knows that yet)

Invent a b/f-that sounds like fun, lol!
