Claire,

by metered taxi, it should be about 250-300B. There is a public taxi kiosk outside at the airport ( turn right as you exit from building). The taxis have a surcharge of around 50B for the airport service. If you travel by expressway there will also be a toll charge (40-80B.). Insist on the meter!
The airport limousine service (inside) is far more expensive!! I wouldnt go for that...

If you arrive at the airport before midnight you can also use the AIRPORT BUS for 100 baht. The Airport Bus has a kiosk, (ugly purple pink colors on the sign) on the same level as the taxi stands. Tell one of the helpful ladies you want KSR and she will sell you the ticket and put you on the right bus.

When you cash your home currency into baht - don't forget to get some small notes for paying taxis and small shops. Don't expect everyone to be able to cash 500 baht or 1000 baht notes everywhere you go.

Like the previous msg. said - when you use a taxi tell the driver you want the meter on, it's cheaper than bargaining! I rarely get a taxi driver to refuse to turn it on, if they do just get out and get another passing taxi - there are lots and lots of cheap taxis in Bangkok. When in town and you need a taxi - hail a passing taxi - avoid the taxis stopped (lurking)at hotels or bus stations they are usually more expensive.

yeah dont pay anymore than 300baht and be insistent on them putting the meter on as many try to get out of it!!!!look around for people in a similar situation and try to share a taxi!My mate was coming to meet me and he got ripped into paying 800 baht after they whipped out toll taxes which were ridiculously high and refused to put the meter on!!!!so just be aware!

If you are at the airport before midnight take the Airport Bus for 100 baht, much simpler than worrying about paying too much for tolls or taxi meters. I think it is safer for a woman to use the bus, sitting among other passengers, than going down a dark road, late at night, alone in a strange city.

When I arrive after the Airport Bus service shuts down, and I have to take a taxi, I don't use the toll road because there is no "rush hour traffic" late at night.

yeah theres another route where there is no tolls to pay so if you end up getting a taxi and the roads arent busy it doesnt actually take much longer to go the other route!
