Hey people!!

Im looking to travel to Oz for 6-8 months planned from Sep or Oct 06!! Im 18 and plan to travel alone. Im not sure what to expect and not sure how to meet people when im out there!!! Is it easy to meet people?

As for work!! Is it easy to find a job.... etc? And money wise, how much would you normally need to take with you?

If anyone could offer me some advise then it would be very helpfull!!

Cheers,
Dan

Hi! I would say it´s fairly easy to meet other people when travelling since everyone is in the same boat. It is especially easy if you stay at the backpacker hotels. I believe though that its harder if you go to a place which is crowded with backpackers. Better to stay a little off the commonly walked trails.

Good Luck mate,
Magnus

I was in Australia all of last year and it was absolutely amazing. You'll definately have a great time. I found it pretty easy to find work, but it was mostly stuff like telemarketing and telesales (and I only lasted a week in that job). If you're in Brisbane, there's a section of the paper called career one that I found really useful. Or go to Global Gossip (they're everywhere) and they've got job posts there specifically aimed towards travellers. I worked for Global Gossip and it was really fun working for them... so if they're hiring, they tend to like travellers.
Make sure that you go to Airlie Beach. I loved it there. I don't know how good the job market is there, since I only worked in Sydney and Brisbane, but once I got to Airlie, I really wished that I had tried to get a job there instead. I'm so jealous, I wish I could go back.....
~Good luck!~
