I my Wife and I are looking to take a trip to Europe over the holidays sometime between Dec 23rd and Jan 3rd and we were hoping for some recommendations for places that would be nice to travel that time of year hoping to learn from others personal experience. We will be coming from the US. Also places to avoid would be appreciated you know places where everything is shut down for the holidays as well, and or any good travel deals anyone may know of.
If you're planning to fly, better start looking right now. Flights between Dec. 17th and 24th pretty much triple or more in price (just as one example, one airline had a return Montreal-London on Dec 13th at 229 pound, and on Dec. 17 at 2500 pound). Plus a lot of flights are already sold out. You may get a realy good deal on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, though.
I'm not sure what the accommodation situation will be like in Europe, but just on personal preference I'd recommend Paris. I caught just a glimpse of the city in November, and it was already beautifully decorated for the holidays. Plus there's so much to see and do, and I don't believe Paris gets much snow, if any. It's also a wonderfully romantic city, and you can easily head to Brussels or London for a few days.
You don't think there will be any problems in Paris over the holidays? with all of the recent evens in France I was a little worried about it. Just a thought though.
I didn't see a thing - it's mostly out in the suburbs. You can read up a little more on it, but the plane back was full of people who seemed to have had a riot-free time.
