I am an Australian woman who in conjuction with an Indonesian English teacher Andang Heryana have a free mobile weekend English school in Cipanas and Cianjur in West Java for poor children that has been in existence for 4 yrs now.
Cipanas and Cianjur (30 minutes apart by bus) are about 2-2.5 hrs by bus from Bogor, passing by the beautiful tea plantations of the Puncak Pass.
We welcome travellers to pop in and spend some time with the students to help them in their English conversations.
We do not charge any fee, just require you to pay for your accomodation, food and transportation if necessary. Sometimes you might have the chance to actually live with an indonesian family and participate in their everyday life during your stay.
During your stay you can visit many of the wonderful sites in the area which is not frequented by many travellers because it is not mentioned in any detail in any of the travel books.
Really a little piece of paradise where you can really live the life of an average Indonesian and even get a great chance to learn the language as well as help these young students.
For more information please contact me at -snip- or Andang at -snip-
If you are going to email Andang, please let me know by email so I can let him know via sms.
Andang seldom visits the Internet because of the cost involved in Cianjur- 12,000/hr for o.k. connection. Cheaper for super lousy connection.
P.S. Sorry Frank I sent this to your inbox by mistake.

Daniella from Holland has just opened a free english school in Bukit Lawang North Sumatra for all the local children about 6 months ago.
Classes have about 55 children regularly attending and I know she would welcome people wanting to go and volunteer their time to help the teacher Nani (a good friend of mine) whom I met in Jan/Feb 2005.
For more information check the website.
English version should be up and running just after the New Year so I have been told.
i would like to volunteer in india, thailand or sri lanka, preferably in conservation, but a lot of the british volunteer organisations are very expensive. is there another, cheaper way to be able to do this?
nice to know there are so many of us out there wanting to use our travel time affectively.
I long to travel this coming Eater and start in South Korea/Nepal/India Asia basically. Does anyone know of any orphanges that need help, or animal shelters or primary schools.
I long to volunteer but similiar to many of you have very little in the means of financial funds...any free places????
Please PM me or (even more helpful) write details for all to see.

I volunteered at the School For The Blind in Chaing Mai, they just need people to have conversation english with the young people. Sunaree is the English teacher, and she is happy to welcome anyone who wants to give some time. I worked for 4 days and really enjoyed myself, I basically walked in off the street and offered my services, and myself and Sunaree worked out times on her timetable.
The school is in desperate need of objects which could be used in stimulation...sensory items, things they can feel and touch, things they could listen too - book tapes or spoken tapes. So if you have anything that you can give, or send, they would be very grateful. Even if you have nothing to give but time, they will be happy to see you.
