Hey,
I crossed from Thailand to Myannmar last year. I went from Mai Sai(60km north of Chiang Rai) to Tachilek which is in Myanmmar. You can only go over for a day trip and not allowed to travel outside of the Tachilek province. If your thinking of going to Yangon or Mandalay from what i have heard and read you must fly in from Bangkok.

I have heard that the Burmese(Myanmmar) Government only allow people to fly in for security purposes. So if you want a day trip to Myanmmar go from Mai Sai to Tachilek but i must warn you Tachilek was the only place in Asia(and I have been all over Asia) that i felt was a little sketchy. It is a classic border town with many beggars and touts who no matter how many times that you polietly tell them that you dont want to buy something will follow you around. We had one guy follow me and my girlfriend for over 30 minutes.

I hope my info kinda helped you
