Now, here's my tuppence to the topic...

Links transfer you between different websites or positions on the website whereas buttons bring up a dialogue or do something when you click on it...

So all those are buttons because they open up a dialogue rather than redirecting you!!!

Anyway, congratulations Travis... Keep posting and you'll be respected pretty soon and get all the nice shiny toys to play with whatever you want to call them...

I think I start calling them bunks... Or precious... Yesssss.... that's it... they are my preciousssss....

One button to rule them all, one button to find them,
One button to bring them all, and in darkness bind them....

Button-

2. <operating system> A graphical representation of an
electrical push-button appearing as part of a graphical
user interface. Moving the mouse pointer over the
graphical button and pressing one of the physical mouse
buttons starts some software action such as closing a window
or deleting a file.

Before someone corrects me, I will correct myself... (Bad Isa!!!) "Edit" and "Delete" for responses are not pretty buttons (although, not really links either...) BUT, the thread "delete" is big and pretty. I stand corrected! By me... Before someone else did it... Okay, now you have to take my word for it... I'm going away... Quickly...

You're almost there. Based on the programming codes, the edit and delete function at the bottom of every posts are technically image links. The edit link brings you to an editor page, while the delete link brings you to a delete confirmation page where a real button is (technically an image button). Click on that button and the post is deleted.

There's another set of delete buttons at the thread list page. These buttons will take you to the thread delete confirmation page with another button (technically an image button). Click that button and the entire thread is deleted.

With the correct programming, links can also bring up a dialogue or do something when you click on it, and so can buttons transfer you between different websites or positions on the website.

Links, image links, buttons, or image buttons, they can perform the same tasks, but with different presentation to the user.

I think TKolb325's definitions have it best, but I think that it is kind of limiting. Because there are buttons that only link.

But a button doesn't have to be a graphic either - I can make a button out of CSS (cascading style sheets) for example.

Once again... Another successful thread highjacking!!!

17. Posted by TKolb325 (Full Member 197 posts) 11y

Well at least the thread has some meaning now instead of me bragging about my extremely enlightening posts.(Yes they are enlightening!)

Although this is one of the most ridiculous debates i've heard in a while. :)

Ridiculous? Hey, this is a pointless thread, remember?

... Just thought I would waste your time, and make you read a pointless thread.
