im going on a rtw trip in february and i expect to be doin a fair bit of walking/hiking. i was wondering what do people do if they want to go out for a drink? i obviously have to take some proper boots with me but am stuck as to what other sort of footwear i shud take. i am going to aus and NZ and i guess this is where most of my drinking will be done (i have been told anyway). are the dress codes quite slack over there if you want to go to a club/bar, do most people wear trainers or shoes? or is it a good idea to buy some cheap shoes over there?

god, who would have thought going round the world would be such a hassle!

just re read that. forgot to put in the main question, is it possible to get away with wearing hiking boots (mine are black and grey) to the bars, pub and clubs without looking a complete d*ck? what does the average person do?

I would take some proper boots for walking and then some other comfortable shoes/trainers for other activities-im sure you could get away with wearing them when you go out providing they arnt too shabby! U definitely need to take 2 pairs of shoes because if one pair starts to kill your feet (which it will if you are wearing it all the time)then you have a back up. You also wont want to go out in shoes you have been walking in all day.

Like you said you can always buy some more shoes esp if you are in aust/NZ.

Have a great trip!

I was going to say something profound and wise, but I think blue_eyes has summed it all up... At least all my wisdom about shoes..
